Despite the confusing temperatures (which are normal in Lubbock, but to which my body cannot ever seem to get accustomed), spring is still very obviously in its early stages. We started finding hatched eggs in our yard just this week and the family of birds who live in a hole in our roof each year have just begun to gather material to build their nest. Some trees are still entirely bare, while others have leaves of bright new green, not yet faded by the dust and the dry heat of Lubbock.
Despite these signs that spring is still around and here to stay for some time yet, Easter felt like some sort of crafty deadline for me and I finally got myself motivated to make some of those things that I had been pinning for the past few months. Here is a run-down of what I made with the kids last week.
1. Shredded Paper Bird's Nest from The Long Thread
This one was an amazing project for just about any age child. Easy to do and lovely to see.
2. Fabric Scrap Eggs from Sew Mama Sew
Once we had our nest, we needed something to put in it. These were definitely too complicated for Clayton, but Evan did just fine. Our scraps were on the large side and he would have had an easier time with smaller scraps, but as is, he was able to make an egg by himself, though he had a hard time getting the edges to hold down smoothly. The eggs we made together worked a little better, since I could press down the edges and smooth out the fabric as he worked.
3. Yarn eggs from Simply Modern Mom
We all got involved in making these eggs - even my parents, who are visiting right now. Evan and Clayton enjoyed dipping the yarn in the bowl of glue, but most of the wrapping was left to adult hands. Evan did help a bit to wrap his egg, holding the yarn while I turned the balloon around.
4. Clothespin Bunnies from Maya*Made
These were a project just for me - tiny little bunnies for the boys' Easter baskets. I am really not a good hand sewer, so the front seam is very messy, but my boys do not care and I think they are sturdy enough. And cute...they are definitely cute.
What spring crafts have you been working on lately?
Wow, you guys have been busy. So many lovely Eastery projects. The yarn eggs are my favourite, I must remember them for next year!
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter!
Yes, but fun busy, of course. It's always good to put aside the cleaning for the day to make something special.
